8 volunteers are wanted to conduct oral history interviews, and summarise the results. We intend to record and process 32 interviews by summer 2018. Each of the selected volunteers will be expected to undertake around 4 in-depth interviews from February to June. Interviewers will be selected to represent as wide an experience of Pilsdon throughout the years as possible: from past and present members, volunteers, guests and wayfarers.
No experience of oral history is required but the post will require a flexible approach, the ability to travel, sensitivity, and the willingness to build a good relationship with selected interviewees, especially since interviews may need to take place over several sessions. A certain time commitment will be required in order to undergo some oral history training, and to travel to and undertake interviews. Interviewers do not need to live nearby but they would need to attend a training workshop at Pilsdon and a mid-project review day in April.
Application deadline: Friday 26th January
Project start date: 31st January - interviewing for 5 months (flexible hours and time commitment depending on your circumstances).
Location: Pilsdon and remote (depends on UK interview location)
Oral History Training: Saturday 10th February
Expenses: Reasonable travel expenses will be covered. Other out-of-pocket expenses such as refreshments and materials.
If you would like to apply please outline your relationship to Pilsdon, when you lived or stayed here, and why you are interested in this role. Please also state why you think you would make a good interviewer. Put this in an email, or send by post, to the project co-ordinator Mary Davies by the 26th January 2018. If you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch.
